HMB Products (Powder)

HMB is commonly included in products aimed at exercise recovery and muscle support. Studies differ in their participants, training programs, and outcomes, so the benefits are not equally established for every active adult.

HMB stands for beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate. The body makes a small amount of HMB from leucine, an essential branched-chain amino acid found in protein-containing foods.

No. HMB supplements may use a calcium salt, often labeled HMB-Ca, or a calcium-free form known as HMB free acid. Check the Supplement Facts panel for the form, other nutrients, and serving directions.
